Most dogs are captured strays, stolen from their families, and bought from dog shelters.  Dog farming for meat consumptions is rare due to the high cost of feeding them and keeping them healthy. 
​ It is believed that the adrenaline produced by severe, extreme and prolonged  pain and trauma to the dog during their horrific deaths during "traditions" such as the Yulin Festival makes the meat taste better and brings good luck and male stamina during the next year.  Perhaps these individuals that burn, skin, stab, and boil tied up defenseless creatures can't keep a "woody" because they know they are not deserving of any pleasure in their miserable lives.
